Abstract:


This paper aims to analyze the behavior of SSDs in a HPC context. The characteristics of HPC applications are captured from real and long term HPC running applications, then they are used to generate representative I/O work- loads. A typical data storage hardware for HPC is adopted and a simulation process is con- ducted using self-developed workload generator and event-driven simulator. The simulation fo- cuses on FIFO and operations class (RD/WR) priority modes to determine which one is more appropriate for the HPC context. The obtained results give significant arguments for the choice of the SSDs access strategy in this specific con- text.
