The wireless communication technology has seen tremendous growth in the last two decades. Various applications have been advantaged by this technology. In cosmopolitan cities, people may happily pay the price for time. It is a difficult and time consuming task to find a vacant parking bay in heavily populated places like shopping malls, theatres and public places. In this paper, a smart vehicle parking reservation system is proposed. In the system, people can reserve a parking bay by using the short message service (SMS). A notification with reserved parking bay information is sent back. The system comprises of hardware and software. The proposed system is tested and the results have proven that on average in 1.8 seconds a confirmed notification is received. The system has an optimum beam angle of 105° for the IR sensors Thus, the proposed system is not only rapid but also provides reserved parking bay location.
