Research in the field of Information Visualisation usually results in the construction of an artifact to visually represent information. Since the end product of design science research is also an artifact, it can be argued that design science research is an appropriate research paradigm for conducting Information Visualisation research. The Rigor cycle of design science research requires that the design of the artifacts should be based on a scientific knowledge base. The aim of this paper is to provide a knowledge base in the form of design principles and guidelines that can guide the design of the view for an Information Visualisation solution. The design principles and guidelines presented in this paper are identified by means of a literature review.
