Abstract:
Educational technologies are a means to enhance the teaching and learning process both the teachers and the students. Various literature showed a significant impact on the use of these technologies. In the Philippine context, social networking sites play a vital role in the everyday activities of these students at the tertiary level. However, understanding the actual experiences of these students remain unexplored, which this research aimed to disclose. This study utilized the qualitative case study design to unveil the authentic experiences of the selected 15 IT Students in the university through in-depth interview and observation. These students were purposively selected based on the selection criteria. The data collected were analyzed using Thematic Analysis approach for data analysis. Results revealed varied opinions and grouped according to the theme such as collaborative learning strategy, social networking sites a platform of ubiquitous learning, drive to learn further, and accessibility constraints. Based on findings, it is imperative to say that social networking site as a medium of instructions and learning showed significant interest and positive feedback. Finally, further studies, like the experiences of the teachers using social media, can be explored.
