Abstract:


in this paper, a low phase noise and low supply voltage ring based voltage-controlled-oscillator (VCO) is presented. The phase noise performance is improved by modifying the symmetrical load differential VCO delay-cell structure in order to maximize the output voltage swing. The circuit is implemented in a 0.13μm CMOS technology. The operation frequency of the proposed ring based VCO is from 6138 to 7222 MHz. The characteristics of the proposed ring based VCO are −128.2 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz frequency offset in terms of phase noise, and 2.42 mW with a 1.2 V voltage supply in terms of power consumption.
