Digital Education and Universities: Collaborative Solutions for a Global Challenge

Mr. Antonio Martínez-Arboleda

Whether we like it or not, technology applications and platforms are increasingly determining what we teach, how we teach, what our students learn and how they learn.
Our use of technology is altering the complex set of relationship between students, lecturers, institutions and external providers of technology and educational services, many of which have a global outreach.
We will examine a variety of innovations at different levels, including Virtual Learning Environments and Audio-visual Communication, as well as the most significant initiatives in Open Education, such MOOCS (Massive Open Online Courses) and OER (Open Educational Resources), identifying their affordances, but also the challenges that our Higher Education Systems are facing as a result of them.
We will also suggest solutions to some of the most imminent imbalances of all types generated by the adoption of Digital Education Technologies in Universities and will outline strategic opportunities for the advancement of Higher Education worldwide in our new digital environment, with a focus on internationalisation and institutional collaboration.
